Gertie the Dinosaur (1914) This film is widely considered the first Animated film. Notice how they treat the animation almost like magic, as the person introducing Gertie interacts with her as though she is alive. Every saga has a beginning... |
Steamboat Willie (1928) Walt Disney has created some of the greatest animated films of all time, and his technical and artistic accomplishments are legendary in the industry. This is the film that started it all. It was the first "talkie" where animation and sound were synced together. |

Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers (1993) This clay animation by Aardman Studios founder Nick Parks was created using interchangeable parts (note the eyes, for example, are round and can be removed from the head). This made the animation more fluid and lifelike. The quirky characters and funny stories also help make these classics of the genre. |
Father and Daughter (2000) This film from 2000 is an amazing film with a deep message. It won the academy award in 2000 for best short animated film and as it contains no dialogue, was an inspiration for us as we talked about the importance of visual storytelling. |
