A Hidden Value un "cover"-ed This is a first edition printing of The Great Gatsby from 1925. The jacket art for Fitzgerald’s opus by Francis Cugat is one of the most famous book-cover designs of all time. But dust jackets get lost and are easily damaged; though, and this copy is very rare. Charlie Jones from the auction house that owned this copy said that a first-edition without the jacket might only set a collector back a few grand, but he thinks there are probably only five Gatsby first-editions on the market that have their jackets intact. This copy's asking price? $194,000. Popularity of the book, its cover, and its almost singular rarity, make Gatsby one of the most valuable first printings of all time. |
